GETTING THE BEST BOOK COVER DESIGN
The design of your book cover will go on to affect how the public will initially perceive your book whilst browsing in both the high street book shops and the online stores too, so why take any risks with its creation? Understanding this role and ensuring that your cover is designed to show not only the concept but also a whole host of information will be done by the book cover designer.
When we talk of its additional roles what do we actually refer to? Well, as most of us appreciate the initial role of the book cover is to be eye-catching to the reader and help in its sale, but it will also need to portray more than just a pretty image.
It will need to let the potential reader know what genre the book is specifically targeted at, and yes you will need to have a clear idea as to who your specific audience is, unfortunately there has still yet to be a single book which has been loved by 100% of the population. Knowing your targeted audience will ultimately ensure that it sells in bigger numbers.

The book cover should tell the reader the time period of the book, if it’s set in Victorian England will your reader have a clear understanding of this prior to picking up the book off of the shelf, I know in some cases the author may wish to focus in on another element of the story but again you can run the risk of missing your audience.
Its location, although this may not be the major factor to every single book to some works it is highly entwined and vital to the story line of the book, again the book designer will be able to focus in on this and ensure that this is related to the audience.
One of the most important factors will be however in the concentration of utilizing the main ‘hook’ of your work, asking yourself the question of why would a reader buy this book or what makes my book different to anyone else’s (and being both honest and subjective with your answers), this will enable you to select the main focus of the book and then allow your book cover designer to develop into its cover design.
