TERMS and CONDITIONS
Ready Made Book Cover Design Terms & Conditions
How does the ‘Ready-made’ service work?
Once we get an order for a ready-made book cover and payment is made, we will remove the design from display on our website (this will be done within two business days and on a first come first serve basis), once we receive the details for your book we will add them to the cover and then send to you the design to your email address via WeTransfer, this is usually done within two business days (Mon-Fri). All of our Ready-Made book covers are sold 'as seen', this means that although we will update the design with your book's title, name and subtitle (if using one), the artwork won't be changed. However, if you would like adjustments made to a specific Ready-Made book cover, please let us know so that we can quote you a fee and time frame for the additional work to the specific design.
Can I have the source files for the cover?
Please note, in most Ready Made book covers we use stock imagery, this means that due to licensing constraints we cannot issue the the source files for these designs.
Stock Imagery within designs
Your Ready Made book cover design comes with the stock imagery non-exclusive license for up to 500,000 sales, once you go past this you will need to get back in touch to extend the license for the stock imagery used within your book cover, this is normally around $80 per image used (but by this time your book cover will have help to make you thousands of dollars), its a small price to pay and the reason why we can keep the premade designs at great prices for every author.
What information will you need from me?
We will need to know who you are publishing your book with so that we can tailor the design for their specific requirements, for printed books we will need to know the confirmed page count, trim size and interior paper color, we will also need the blurb for your back page and ISBN. Any further changes to the design once completed may be chargeable.
What will the paperback look like?
Covers which are converted to paperback will come with a plain spine and back page with the color themed to the front page, to this we will add your title, name and blurb, if you have an ISBN we can also add this to the back page for you. Please note that the color/saturation etc. of printed books will differ slightly to what you see upon the screen, the printing process for most publishers will differ from printer to printer too.
If you are printing your book via Ingram Spark, you may notice some color shift with your design, this is due to the specifications required by Ingram Spark and limitations on their printing process and specified ink levels.
Use of designs by JD&J Design LLC
We reserve the right to use your completed book cover and any materials created by JD&J Design LLC within our own portfolio and
marketing materials, be that online or in printed form.
How long does JD&J keep my files?
Once we’ve created your book cover design and/or any other promotional designs, we will send you the necessary files ready for you to use, this is normally done using a file transfer service (as the files are normally large in size and too big for just one email), after this we will keep your files stored for up to 12 months only.
What if I have revisions at a later date?
For revisions to the design once the cover is complete and at a later date, there will be a minimum fee of $25 per round (this is based on how much work is required). Please note, in some cases where you are still waiting on a confirmed page count when the project is finalized, we will adjust the spine width of your cover at a later date free of charge.
Free Promotional Prize - Ready Made Book cover
The readymade book cover prize will be for one winner only and include the layout for eBook and print (paperback only), by accepting the free readymade book cover you understand the terms & conditions and are aware that the license for stock imagery used will need to be extended once your book sells more than 500,000 copies (please see Stock Imagery section above).
