A well-crafted back page to your book cover design is just as important as the contents upon the front, as anyone within advertising will tell you, your goal is to hook the reader in to wanting to know more about the contents and ultimately buy the book.
So, once your book cover has enticed them to pick it up from the shelf, the next thing they’ll do is flip it over and read the back, it’s after this that they’ll either decide to move on to the next or take it to the register, this information is your final sales pitch and it pays to get it right. But creating copy for your back page can feel like a very daunting task, we’ve seen authors take several weeks developing their text only to change it at the last minute, writers will agonize over what to put in and (just as importantly) what to leave out, it is a fine line between giving too much of your plot away and not drawing your reader in with enough information. To try and help you if you are in the process of writing copy for your book cover’s back page, here are some of our top tips in getting it right.

The book cover design will become the focus of every single author at some point during the pre-publication process, for the indie author it’s another element which can seem daunting, it’s also something that you’ll be doing in tandem with the editing and formatting of the book too, so while you’re trying to juggle many elements it pays to get a little help.
It’s at this point that the most successful authors employ others to work upon their project for them, they’ll use a professional editor and formatter to ensure that the content of their book is both professional in its layout and structure, they’ll also use a professional book cover designer to ensure that the ‘face’ of the book can compete within such a crowded market place (and with over 1,200 books being published daily, it’s crowded). In doing so you can sit back and simply manage the project, liaising with the relevant services when necessary and signing off once happy. |
